Longwood student from Farmville
receives scholarship from Richmond public relations group

Emily Grove

Emily Grove, a Longwood University junior from Farmville, recently was awarded one of two scholarships given annually to students at central Virginia colleges by the Richmond Public Relations Foundation.

Grove, a communication studies major, received the David P. Hurdle Memorial Scholarship, which includes $1,000. The scholarship was presented Nov. 29 at the monthly meeting of the Richmond chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), which created the Richmond Public Relations Foundation in 1999 with the primary purpose of “funding future stars in public relations.”

Candidates have to submit an essay, their résumé and a copy of their college transcripts to be eligible for the scholarship, which is for juniors and seniors planning a career in public relations.  The scholarship honors the memory of the former secretary of the Richmond PRSA chapter, who was the longtime public relations director of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association.

Grove, the editor-at-large of the student newspaper, The Rotunda, also is a recipient of the Catherine Merriweather Scott Scholarship and the S. Waverly and Annie V. Putney Scholarship. She is a goalkeeper on the women’s soccer team, and she is a soccer coach and referee for the Prince Edward Farmville Youth Association. Next semester she will do an internship in Longwood’s Sports Information Office.

Grove, from the Darlington Heights area, is a graduate of Prince Edward County High School and is the daughter of Vickie and Robert Grove.
