Expert on higher education law and academic ethics
to speak at Longwood

Gary PavelaGary Pavela, a nationally recognized authority on higher education law and academic ethics, will speak Monday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Grand Dining Room of Longwood University’s Dorrill Dining Hall.

Pavela will speak on academic integrity and students’ role as citizen leaders. He is director of judicial programs and student ethical development at the University of Maryland and editor of the national quarterly Synthesis: Law and Policy in Higher Education, and its sister publication, Syntax Weekly Report. He is a past president of the National Center for Academic Integrity, has been a consultant on legal issues and student conduct policies at many leading universities, and has received numerous awards from professional organizations.

The talk, open to anyone, is part of Longwood’s Honor and Integrity Week and is sponsored by the Honor Board, with assistance from Student Educators for Active Leadership (S.E.A.L.).  Earlier that day, Pavela will meet and work with Student Affairs staff and will speak at a faculty luncheon.
