1 October 2007 Longwood commercials to air on MTV and VH-1 in Northern Virginia
ACTION! That was the word heard frequently around campus on Wednesday, September 12 as Longwood students and faculty members volunteered their time and acting skills to assist the Office of Public Relations with the filming of four, 15-second television commercial spots. Twenty Longwood students auditioned for three student roles and three faculty members auditioned for one faculty role. Those selected for the student roles were Andrew Cason, Brandon Carter, and Sareena Fraticelli – all junior communication studies majors. Dr. Brian Bates, associate professor of archaeology and director of the Archaeology Field School, was selected for the faculty role. In addition to the students cast for the commercials, approximately 20 others volunteered as extras and production assistants during the day-long shoot. Leigh Cupitt, a freshman communication studies major, was one of the volunteer production assistants. “It was a great opportunity getting to work with a professional crew on the set of the Longwood commercial shoot,” she said. “I've always been interested in the filming and editing process, but having that experience made me realize that being behind the scenes and working in the film production industry is definitely what I want to do after I graduate from Longwood.” The spots, which feature an interviewer talking with students/faculty on campus, promote Longwood’s small classes, high job-placement rate, personal attention, and real world internships. The commercials will air on MTV, VH-1, and other channels in Northern Virginia (Loudoun, Prince William, Spotsylvania, and Stafford counties) beginning October 1. The commercial shoot was coordinated by CRT/tanaka, Longwood’s marketing agency, and created and produced by Mackey, Ink of Norfolk and the Park Group of Richmond. |
