Flag Signing

There are two flags in the Student Union main office that can be signed by students, faculty and staff. They will be sent to Virginia Tech in support of their recent tragedy. One is a Virginia Tech flag that was donated by Longwood University's Dean Meadows. The other is a Longwood University Lancer flag that was donated by the Longwood University Bookstore. Both flags will also be present at the Candlelight Vigil on April 19.

Student gather to prayInterfaith Prayer Service - April 20, Noon, Richmond, VA

Longwood students, faculty, staff and alumni in the Richmond area are encouraged to join four members of the Longwood Student Government Association to represent Longwood on Friday, April 20 at the interfaith prayer service in Monroe Park on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. The event, scheduled to begin at noon, is being held in observance of the statewide day of mourning for the victims of Monday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech. Governor Timothy M. Kaine, who declared Friday as a statewide day of mourning, will participate in the service.

The Longwood students will carry a Longwood University banner. Longwood alumni present at the service are encouraged to gather with the student representatives at the Longwood banner. Monroe Park is located at Belvidere and Main Streets on the VCU campus.

Orange & Maroon Effect, Friday, April 20

To support our friends and colleagues at Virginia Tech, Longwood President Patricia Cormier encourages all faculty, staff, and students to wear VT colors, orange and maroon, on Friday, April 20, 2007.

Governor Tim Kaine has declared Friday as a statewide day of mourning for the victims of Monday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech.


Virginia Candlelight Vigil - April 19, 9 p.m.

Every college/university is holding a vigil in unison at 9 P.M. on Thursday. Our vigil will be held behind the Student Union. Candles will be provided. There will be another moment of silence for those affected by the tragedy.


A Moment of Remembrance - April 17, 4 p.m.

The Longwood community will observe a moment of remembrance today at 4 p.m. in honor of the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to gather on Brock Commons in front of Lankford Student Union for this brief service. Offices may close for this event.

Ecumenical Candlelight & Prayer Vigil - April 17, 7 p.m.

A message from the Farmville Area Campus Ministries...

In light of the recent tragedy that has taken place on the campus of Virginia Tech, the various Christian campus ministries of Longwood and Hampden-Sydney would like to invite you to attend a candlelight memorial service and prayer vigil. This ecumenical service will take place tonight, April 17, at 7:00 pm at Farmville United Methodist Church, a location chosen for its convenience. We welcome all to join us as we seek God's comfort during this time of grief and disbelief.
