18 April 2008 Longwood ROTC alumna to speak at commencement
Carson, a 1980 graduate, is retiring May 1 from the Army. She has been chief of staff of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee for the past 18 months. Among her many leadership positions, she has been a brigade commander and a platoon leader and has been stationed in Bosnia, South Korea and Germany and at several locations in the United States. Her decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Airborne Badge. She taught in Longwood’s ROTC program from 1988 to 1991, during which she received an M.S. in physical education in 1991. Her bachelor’s degree also is in physical education. She has a master’s of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. “The first half of my career I was a combat arms officer in the field artillery, and during the second half I was a logistician,” said Carson, a native of Annandale. “After retiring, I plan to live in Northern Virginia and continue my career in logistics.” Some 781 bachelor’s degrees and 151 master’s degrees will be awarded. |
