In support of Governor Mark Warner's dedication to post-secondary education for all Virginia citizens and to demonstrate Longwood University's commitment to and interest in community college graduates, throughout the summer, Longwood will sign a guaranteed admission agreement with Virginia's 23 community colleges.

Under this guaranteed admission agreement, community college graduates who earn the Associate of Arts and/or Science degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher will be guaranteed admission to Longwood University. Longwood values the role community colleges have played in educating Virginians and was one of the first Virginia institutions to enter into agreements with community colleges in 1991. The university is pleased to take the initiative to the next level.

This guaranteed admission agreement adds to the 1991 articulation agreement that guarantees that Associate of Arts and/or Science degree recipients will have junior status, that all of their credits will transfer, although not all may apply toward the degree, and that all of their lower-division general education goals will be met.

Longwood President Patricia P. Cormier praised the quality of Rappahannock Virginia Community College's graduates and noted "Associate of Arts and/or Science degree holders have graduated from Longwood above the 80 percent rate with little to no change in their grade point averages."

Dr. Elizabeth H. Crowther, president of Rappahannock Community College, said, "The guaranteed admission agreement between RCC and Longwood tremendously eases the transition for our students transferring to Longwood University--the university of choice for a vast number of students in RCC's service region. This agreement guarantees status as a Longwood junior; how can you do better than that for RCC graduates? We are delighted to be cementing this opportunity for them."

The agreement will go into effect for students applying to Longwood for the spring 2006 term.
