Longwood to Raise Tuition

Longwood University will increase annual tuition and fees for the 2005-06 school year by an average of 6.3 percent for in-state residential students and by 5.3 percent for out-of-state residential students as approved by the Board of Visitors on Saturday, April 2. For in-state residential undergraduates, total tuition and fee charges for those on the 14-meal plan (the most common) will increase from $11,865 to $12,606. For out-of-state residential undergraduates, total tuition and fee charges for those on the 14-meal plan will increase from $18,375 to $19,340.

“Longwood is committed to a high quality education for all of our students, “ said Kathy Worster, Vice President for Administration and Finance. “In order to accomplish this, increases in tuition will help to fund faculty salaries and benefits, financial aid for students, and offset some of our fixed costs. The tuition increase will also assist in the university’s recovery from the cuts in state support made in 2002 and 2003.”

The Board of Visitors also confirmed Wayne McWee as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. McWee had served as interim vice president for academic affairs since August 2004.

During his 22 years at Longwood, Dr. McWee has also served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Interim Dean of the College of Business and Economics, Chair of the Management, Marketing, and Computer Information Management Systems Department, President of the Faculty Senate, and as a faculty member.
