Soldiers of Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 111th Field Artillery, Virginia U.S. Army National Guard, returned home from Iraq to a warm welcome and rousing reception from the town of Farmville and Longwood University on 13 December 2005. Led by the Fuqua Marching Band and a caravan of town officials, the 182 Soldiers marched through town, up High Street, and then down Brock Commons to Willett Hall where family members awaited eagerly for their arrival in Lancer Gym. Flags, balloons, bunting, and people lined the parade route. Chants of "USA-USA-USA" greeted the Soldiers as they were welcomed home by military officials and Dr. Patricia P. Cormier, president of Longwood University. Soldiers of Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 111th Field Artillery entered active federal service on October 17, 2004 and deployed to Ft. Dix, N.
