Dr. Wayne McWee named Longwood’s Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Wayne McWeeDr. Wayne McWee, Longwood University's interim vice president for academic affairs since last July, can drop the "interim" from his title.

The Longwood Board of Visitors on April 2 approved his permanent appointment to the university's top academic position. Dr. McWee is serving in the office of the vice president for academic affairs for the third time, having been associate vice president from 1992-1994 and 1985-1989.

Dr. McWee was interim dean of the College of Business and Economics in 2003-2004 and chaired the Department of Management, Marketing & Computer Information Management Systems from 1998-2003. He has twice been president of the Faculty Senate (2002-2003 and 1997-1998), chaired the Intercollegiate Athletic Council for three years and was the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for five years.

Awards he has received at Longwood include the Maude Glenn Raiford Award, two Fuqua Excellence in Teaching Awards, and the Outstanding Faculty Award and the Outstanding Advisor Award from the College of Business & Economics.

"Over the years, his exemplary leadership has contributed greatly to Longwood's progress and stature," said President Patricia Cormier.

A native of Yale, Michigan, Dr. McWee came to Longwood in January 1984 as assistant professor of business administration after teaching at Southeastern Oklahoma University for three years. He has been a full professor since 1997. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University and an Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado.

"I am honored to be selected by Dr. Cormier and the faculty as the vice president for academic affairs," Dr. McWee said. "During my 22 years as a faculty member, I have come to love Longwood, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve this institution."

He and his wife, Deborah, have three children, two of whom are Longwood graduates: David MacWayne McWee (2002) and Andrea Lynn McWee Parson ('93). Dr. McWee is active in the Farmville community.
