Longwood College News Release

French & South Tabb Access
Schedule & Procedures

01 May 2001

The following plan has been established in order to allow orderly access to the French and South Tabb residence hall rooms. It is critical that all students adhere to the schedule that has been arranged. Under extreme circumstances, please call 804-395-2080 immediately to make other arrangements.

WHEN MAY YOU RETURN?

South Tabb 1st floor and 2nd floor residents and French 3rd floor residents:
Thursday, May 3, 2001 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon is the return date and times.

French 1st floor and 2nd floor residents:
Thursday, May 3, 2001 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM is the return date and times.

WHAT IF YOU CANNOT RETURN ON THURSDAY?

Friday, May 4, 2001 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon can be used as an alternative date and time for students not able to return to campus at their designated time on Thursday. Those requiring this alternate time are asked to call the Office of Residence Education and Housing at 804-395-2080 to confirm your time of arrival.

WHAT IF YOU ARE FROM OUT OF STATE?

If you cannot arrange your return to campus on Thursday or Friday, please contact the Office of Residence Education and Housing at 804-395-2080 to make special arrangements.

WHERE MUST YOU GO?

As you enter campus, please proceed to the North entrance of French (at the large study lounge). At the intersection of Griffin (which runs behind Cox and Wheeler) and High Street, turn right on High Street and proceed to front of French. High Street will be blocked for orderly traffic control beginning at 8:30 AM. Please do not line up prior to this time. All students moving out of French will use the High Street entrance (click here for map).

WHAT ASSISTANCE WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU?

Members of the campus community and professional movers will be on hand to assist with moving. Plastic bags, boxes and dumpsters will be available. We suggest you bring a moving cart, if required for your move. Residents will be expected to remove all items from residence hall rooms. Presently, rooms are being videotaped to record contents and the condition of rooms (which, in French and South Tabb, were virtually untouched by the fire). Staff will be available to check-out students and to assist in any way needed. Counselors and other campus officials will be available at a community gathering location in Bicentennial Park located on High Street, just across from French Hall.

This plan has been designed to ensure safety. Please be aware before your return to campus that the Colonnades Complex remains a secured area where work is underway to dry, clean, and stabilize Tabb and South Ruffner, both of which sustained damage. At this point, the timeline for students returning to claim belongings from Tabb and South Ruffner has not been determined.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, May 3 and to assisting you with your moving efforts.
