Longwood
College is As Longwood College recovers from the recent fire of April 24, President Patricia Cormier wants the public to know that "Longwood College is open for business. Our commencement is on schedule for May 12 and summer sessions will proceed as planned. We anticipate that the three dorms which suffered smoke and water damage, will be fully functional by the beginning of the fall semester." Although the fire destroyed four historic buildings on campus, the rest of the campus and physical plant were unaffected. The map (click here) indicates which portion of the campus was destroyed (yellow highlight), approximately 200,000 square feet of space. The college has already identified new work space on campus for faculty who were displaced from Grainger Hall and is exploring additional classroom and office space.
