Fire at Longwood College-- Historic Ruffner Hall

Farmville, VA- At approximately 9:30 pm this evening, a fire broke out in the historic Ruffner complex at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. No injuries have been reported and 400 students have been evacuated safely from Tabb, South Tabb, South Ruffner and French dormitories and moved to the Lancer Gym where they will be spending the night.

The Ruffners, which include Grainger Hall, West Ruffner, East Ruffner and the landmark Rotunda have been undergoing a major $12 million renovation over the past year. Firefighters from Farmville, Hampden-Sydney College, Prince Edward County and surrounding areas have responded to the fire which is still ablaze. An investigation of the fire's origin is underway.

Classes for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25 have been cancelled and all faculty and staff will meet in Jarman Auditorium at 11:00 am tomorrow for a status report.
