FIRE UPDATE Thursday,
26 April 2001 There was a "minor flare-up" on the third floor of South Ruffner where it connects with Main Ruffner this morning at 6:50 am. Dave Harnage, Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance reports that the flare-up is under control and there is nothing to worry about. Mr. Harnage also reported that observers who had been posted around all the affected buildings last night noticed smoke and called the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department. Fire companies from Rice, Prospect and Hampden-Sydney also responded. According to officials, a flare-up in a major fire such as this is not unusual. Tommy Hayes, a 1st Lieutenant with the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department reported that 13 firefighters were still in the building at 8:15 am and would remain to make sure that everything is secure. Two employees from ARAMARK Dining Services were on the scene providing refreshments to the firefighters, as they have done since the fire broke out on Tuesday night.
