Longwood College News Release

RECOVERY OPERATIONS
FRENCH/SOUTH TABB
RESIDENCE HALLS

01 May 2001

Longwood College officials announced today that plans are well underway for allowing residents of French and South Tabb residence halls to return to their living areas beginning on Thursday, May 3 in order to retrieve personal belongings. According to Dave Harnage, Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance, "French and South Tabb are basically undamaged, and we are developing a coordinated plan to help students to retrieve their items."

Students will be contacted soon via phone and overnight mail by the office of Student Affairs and given instructions about the retrieval process (see link below) and when they can return to campus. Mr. Harnage stated that groups of 25-30 students would be allowed into their rooms at a time. This sequential process will help the college to avoid logistical and traffic problems, while ensuring the safety of parents and students. "We have a lot of equipment on campus now, as part of our recovery and salvage operation. We need to keep the safety of students and parents uppermost in our minds. Our Campus Police department will be directing traffic and working with folks to ensure an orderly departure from campus."

A drying process is underway in South Ruffner and the remainder of Tabb as those buildings suffered more water and smoke damage than French and South Tabb. A timeline for access to those residence halls will be announced as soon as possible.
