Web/Multimedia Designer
(Media Specialist III, Position #00002)

Full-time exempt classified position with Commonwealth of Virginia benefits in Public Relations/Web Communications.

Picture this … You’re sitting in your spacious office designing Longwood’s latest interactive web site on your new powerful Mac Pro with dual widescreens (forget that old PC). Sound nice? Of course, it’s a web designer’s dream job!

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Web/Multimedia Designer in the Office of Public Relations/Web Communications. This position provides creative initiative and support for Longwood’s marketing-oriented admissions site (whylongwood.com), the official Longwood University web site (longwood.edu) and other web sites/pages developed and maintained by the Public Relations/Web Communications Office. 

The primary responsibility of this position is to conceptualize, plan, develop, and maintain creative design elements (web layout, graphics, photography, etc.), new media (video, audio, etc.), and interactive features (flash, etc.) for the above-mentioned web sites.  This position works closely with other members of the web team, contributing to a wide range of web projects and tasks as needed.

Qualifications include the following:

  • Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent job experience;
  • Extensive experience in web, graphics, and new media design or equivalent academic coursework in a related field;
  • Combination of strong creative design talents and technical expertise in web design;
  • Experience designing standards-compliant web sites and creative elements, flash animation and interactivity, digital photography and video, and streaming audio/video;
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, CSS-P, JavaScript, Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Fireworks, Flash and Final Cut Pro or other video editing software;
  • Familiarity with PC and Mac computer, Flash Communication Server and ASP is a plus;
  • Ability to conceptualize new and creative ideas, set and achieve goals, learn and become proficient in new technologies as needed;
  • Work well independently and in a team environment;
  • Understand web standards, accessibility, and usability.

Salary/Benefits Information: Pay Band 4 with Virginia Commonwealth benefits; Successful criminal background check is required.
