Career Potential

There is a world-wide shortage of professional nurses. A nursing career assures you job availability, job security, a good salary, and geographic opportunity.

Projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and various blue-ribbon commissions all agree that nursing is a ‘critical needs’ profession requiring as many as twice the current number of graduates to meet future needs.

Nursing Career Paths

You may choose from many career paths including:

  • direct patient care
  • management
  • education
  • research
  • continued graduate education

With the BSN as your starting point, you may seek a master’s and/or doctoral degree to become an Advanced Practice Nurse (such as a Nurse Practitioner), a nurse faculty, or a nurse researcher. You may choose to work in a hospital, a community setting, schools, or other agencies. Many international opportunities exist as well. With nursing, your future is wide open and exciting.
