Three LOTI Options 1. Teaching a Fully Online Class To teach a class that is 100% online, choose the 30 hour Teaching an Online Class option. In this class participants receive group and individual training and assistance with online pedagogy, equipment and software necessary to develop an online course. Technical support staff are available to provide assistance following the class with 3 individual consultation hours required. The faculty are the content experts who in consultation and cooperation with the technical support personnel design and develop the online courses. Faculty participants are paid a stipend of $1500 for attending LOTI ($50 per hour of attendance) and $2000 to develop a fully online class. Faculty have one year in which to schedule and offer their online class. The course development stipend is paid at the completion of the first offering of the online course after the Quality Matters course evaluation is completed. LOTI participants are encouraged to share their online course development and teaching experiences in one of the monthly LOTI meetings open to all interested Longwood faculty. In the monthly meetings (fourth Tuesday) workshop topics are offered as well based on expressed needs of online faculty. Teaching a Fully Online Class May 2008 Training
2. Teaching a Hybrid Online Class A hybrid online class meets face-to-face for less than 50% of the required class time, e.g. a 3 credit hour class is required to meet face-to-face a minimum of 37.5 hours so a hybrid online class would meet 18 hours or less face-to-face. More than 50% of class time would be fully online and usually asynchronous. In the Teaching a Hybrid Online Class option participants receive 18 hours of group and individualized training and assistance with online pedagogy and the software necessary to develop a hybrid online course. Six hours of pre-requisite training is required before the workshop begins. Technical support staff are available to provide assistance following the class with 3 individual consultation hours required for a total commitment of 27 hours. The faculty are the content experts who in consultation and cooperation with the technical support personnel design and develop the hybrid online course. Hybrid online courses are very popular as they allow a face-to-face connection between faculty and students while also offering more flexible course scheduling. Faculty participants are paid a stipend of $1350 for attending LOTI Teaching a Hybrid Online Class ($50 per hour of attendance) plus $1000 to develop and offer a hybrid online class.
