Technical Skills Requirements for Online Students
There are basic
technical skills required to be successful in online learning.
Online @ Longwood students must have the following basic technical
skills:
Browser Skills -
___ Bookmark web sites
___ Empty the cache
___ Enable JavaScript
___ Set browser to accept cookies
___ Refresh/reload web pages
Download -
___ Download and install programs and plug-ins
Email -
___ Activate Longwood email account
___ Send attachments
___ Cut & paste text
___ Use spell checker
File Management -
___ Set up files and find them as needed
___ Find files attached to emails
___ Find files downloaded from Blackboard or Internet
___ Back up files on CD/DVD or disk
___ Back up plan for a computer crash at a critical time
Print -
___ Print web pages with and without frames from the browser
Search -
___ Search the Internet successfully for resources
Security -
___ Download virus definitions updates regularly (weekly or more often
as necessary)
___ Download current system patches
