Global Politics
Prepare for a Career in International Relations
Students who are interested in careers with the Department of State, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, or the Department of Justice should choose this concentration. The curriculum draws on courses in political science, history, economics, and geography, which provides Global Politics majors with an interdisciplinary understanding of international affairs. Many of our students combine this concentration with a minor in Homeland Security, and some of them double major in Political Science and History.
After Longwood, our graduates have chosen careers in a variety of government agencies and non-governmental organizations. Furthermore, some of them have pursued employment in the corporate sector.
Many of our students use this major to prepare for graduate school. In just the recent past, our students have attended Virginia Tech, George Mason University, American University (DC), Cardiff University (Wales), American University of Paris, Leiden University (the Netherlands), and the London School of Economics and Politics, among others.
