About IITS Project Management

Our Mission

The mission of the project management office is to provide guidance, support, and oversight for approved Longwood University IT projects.

We can assist University Departments in exploring IT solutions to a broad spectrum of academic and administrative needs.

What We Do

This department is staffed by IT project management professionals in cooperation with the entire IITS management and support staff.   We work closely with individuals and departments accross campus to assist them in identifying their technology needs, finding the right solutions for those needs, and implementing them into a production environment. We work hard to ensure that adequate planning and documentation occur to make projects succeed and remain consistent with the strategic goals of the university and legal policies and guidlines.

Change Management and Project Management

While many of the tasks performed by IITS could be considered general system and infrastructure maintenance, sometimes it is necessary to provide greater oversight to ensure success. At the discretion of the IITS Management Team, changes of sufficient scope or impact may be classified as an IT Project and coordinated through the IT Project Management Office.

The Project Management Office is supported by The Technology Core Team.
The Technology Core Team functions to:

  • foster communication concerning current technology issues, policies, projects, and purchases.
  • evaluate proposals for new technology purchases,
  • explore issues and problems with the current uses of technology on campus
  • make recommendations to the Director of IT Project Management, Chief Information Officer, and Executive Steering committee regarding proposed technology purchases and policy changes.
  • facilitate communication within their respective departments regarding technology issues and decisions.
