Longwood University is governed by the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures Manual (pdf) of the Department of Human Resource Management, the Office of Health Benefits Programs.
The Plan is committed to protect the privacy of members' health information, and to comply with applicable federal and state laws that protect the privacy and security of members' health information. This policy establishes the basic requirements for the use or disclosure of members' protected health information, consistent with this commitment.
State agencies and local employers do not have a right to Protected Health Information without a proper authorization. However, Benefits Administrators (BA) may continue to assist plan members with claim and eligibility problems as outlined in DHRM HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures (pdf) (also see Providing Medical Information To Family, Friends, or Others Directly Involved in the Members Care or Payment).
