Dr. Patricia P. Cormier, the 24th president of Longwood University, welcomes Dr. Christopher B. Howard, the 24th president of Hampden-Sydney College, during a reception held for Dr. Howard in Lancaster Hall. Dr. Howard assumed his duties on July 1 of this year (2009).

The Future's so Bright...

Dr. Cormier predicts a bright future for members of the inaugural class of Longwood nursing students during a fall reception sponsored by Centra Southside Community Hospital at the train station in Farmville.

The Cousteau Connection

President Cormier welcomed Céline Cousteau, international project coordinator for the Ocean Futures Society, to Wygal Hall for a lecture as part of Longwood's EarthFest Celebration in April. Cousteau's lecture, "People and the Natural World:  An Exploration of Connections," included video and photographs of her recent expeditions to the Amazon jungles and Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Cousteau is the daughter of ocean explorer and filmmaker Jean-Michel Cousteau and granddaughter of Jacques Cousteau.

Author David Baldacci on campus

Best-selling author David Baldacci is joined by Longwood President Patricia Cormier and former Longwood President William Dorrill during a reception for the author in the Greenwood Library.  Mr. Baldacci's appearance on campus was sponsored by the Friends of the Library and included a presentation to a large and enthusiastic audience in Wygal Auditorium.
