
The Longwood University Board of Visitors convened on campus in the Nance Room of the Dorrill Dining Hall on Dec. 7-8, 2007, and took the following actions:
approved a new agreement between Longwood University and the Longwood Real Estate Foundation that incorporates the recent financing project and refinancing regarding the three student housing properties owned by the Real Estate Foundation. Those financial transactions will fund a pedestrian access bridge for Lancer Park (the former Stanley Park) over West Third Street.
approved changes to the criteria and selection process for faculty awards. Among the changes, the Maria Bristow Starke Faculty Excellence Award and the Junior Faculty Award of Excellence (formerly the Junior Faculty Award) will be awarded at fall convocation, not commencement.
approved changes to the Longwood Seminar Advisory Committee.
approved new and revised administrative policies. The new policies provide guidelines for the emergency siren system (#5605) and emergency text messaging alert system (#5606). The revised policies relate to personnel issues under Policy #5226 (Employment Management for Administrative and Professional Faculty) and Policy #5208 (Conflict of Interest).
approved a six-year restructuring plan, as required by the State.
named the corporate board room in Hiner Hall the Paul H. Fox Board Room, honoring one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the College of Business & Economics. Mr. Fox has been an active member of the Board since its inception. He lives in Richmond and formerly was corporate vice president of Reynolds Metals.
following discussions with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) the Board reinstated the mission statement approved in 1997.
approved changes to policies regarding Information and Instructional Technology. Policy #6105 (Access to Information Technology Resources and Systems) has been revised to remove references to the old administrative system that was replaced by Banner, and the new policies better define expiration of access for adjunct faculty and students. Policy #6128, the antivirus policy, was revised to include malicious software.
approved changes to the Student Handbook regarding the Service Animal Policy.
former Board member Sarah E. Terry of Farmville, who died Dec. 1, was honored with a moment of silence. She served on the Board from 1999 to 2003.
