
The Longwood University Board of Visitors took the following actions during its meeting June 15:
approved a degree program in Philosophy. Longwood has had a minor in Philosophy for many years.
revised guidelines for promotion and tenure in the College of Business & Economics.
revised the Intercollegiate Athletic Council committee structure.
revised the policy on the rank of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer.
approved an internal operating budget for 2006-07 pending budget action of the General Assembly. The Board will revisit the budget issue once the House and Senate approve the budget and it is signed by the Governor.
revised the policy on student accounts.
approved a resolution that formalizes the agreement between the Longwood Real Estate Foundation and Longwood University under which student housing will be provided at Lancer Village (the former Stanley Park) and Longwood Landings.
authorized the president or her designee to negotiate and enter into agreements with the Town of Farmville that establish areas of concurrent police jurisdiction.
revised the language of the University’s Affirmative Action Statement and all other appropriate university publications where affirmative action or diversity is included. The new statement, with changes in boldface, is as follows: Longwood University, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is an equal opportunity institution of higher learning. Consistent with Federal and State law, the University promotes equal opportunity for all prospective and current students and employees. The University will not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, political affiliation, veteran status, or disability status, except in relation to employment where a bona fide occupational qualification exists. approved changes to the Board of Visitors’ bylaws that reflect the Admissions office reporting to the vice president for academic affairs.
