
The Longwood University Board of Visitors convened on campus in the Stallard Board Room in Lancaster Hall on September 14-15, and took the following actions:
approved resolutions to sell and issue bonds via two separate bond resolutions for auxiliary projects to be paid from Non-general funds as follows: $6,393,000 to fund the renovation of Cox Hall; $7,571,200 for construction and/or improvements to field hockey/lacrosse fields, baseball/softball fields, and phase II and II of the heating plant.
approved a revision to the Return to Work Policy (#5230) to comply with the requirement of the Governor’s Executive Order 94 (2005) mandating a modification of the current Return to Work Policy to include “non-work related periods of disability.”
approved a Finance Code of Ethics to comply with state Comptroller Directive 1-7 issued on November 15, 2006. The directive mandates the implementation and annual assessment of internal controls systems with the purpose of providing reasonable assurance of the integrity of all fiscal processes that are related to the Commonwealth’s accounting system. One of the requirements of the directive is the establishment of a Financial Code of Ethics.
approved a resolution granting the University authority to acquire any properties within the area known as the “Triangle,” bordered by High Street to the north, Main Street to the east, and Griffin Boulevard to the west, with Main and Griffin joining at a point to the south. Approval authorizes the president and vice president for administration and finance to negotiate acquisition on “properties that become available and are fundable,” as part of the University’s long-range strategic plan.
approved a revision to the University’s EEO/AA Statement as printed in the Student Handbook to delete the following statement: “except in relation to employment where a bona fide occupational qualification exists.”
Revised statement now reads:
“Longwood University, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is an equal opportunity institution of higher learning. Longwood promotes equal opportunity for all prospective and current students and employees. Longwood University will not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, age or disability status.”
approved a resolution granting permission to Kathy Worster, vice president of administration and finance and contracting officer, to be the authorizing agent for a Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization FY08 Education Funding grant in the amount of $545,460 for the planning year for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The grant request will fund the program director, a curriculum expert, an associate professor and an assistant professor during the planning year of the program with implementation expected in Fall 2009.
