A Gathering of Leaders

In support of Governor Mark Warner’s dedication to post-secondary education for all Virginia citizens and to demonstrate Longwood University’s commitment to and interest in community college graduates, Longwood has signed a guaranteed admission agreement with 18 of Virginia’s community colleges and will sign agreements with five other community colleges by the end of summer. Dr. Cormier and Dr. Gary L. Rhodes, president of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, seal the agreement with a handshake. For additional information about the guaranteed admission program, please access our web story at:

A Gathering of Leaders

Dr. Patricia Cormier and Barry Case, Rector of the Longwood University Board of Visitors, were joined by Senator George Allen following his address to the Class of 2005 during Commencement in which 801 graduates received bachelor's degrees and another 129 were awarded master's degrees--the largest graduating class in Longwood history. Senator Allen, who was Virginia governor from 1994 to 1998 and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1983 to 1991, representing the seat once held by Thomas Jefferson, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The honorary degree was conferred "in recognition of his leadership and service to the Commonwealth of Virginia."
