Teacher Preparation Application Process (pdf)
Submit Teacher Preparation Application once you declare education concentration then work on requirements as listed below. The following requirements must be met by October 1 deadline (for Practicum II (EDUC 370 & SPED 327) and Spring Course Registration Purposes) and by March 1 (for Summer/Fall Course Registration Purposes). Email OPS when all requirements have been met so your application may be processed.
1. Passing scores on one of the following tests:
- A composite SAT score of 1100, 530 or higher on both the math and verbal sections of the test or
- ACT composite score of 24, math minimum 22, reading and English total 46 or
- Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA)
Reading Subtest Score 235 and Writing Subtest Score 235 and
SAT Mathematics Score 530 or - Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA)
Reading Subtest Score 235 and Writing Subtest Score 235 and
ACT Mathematics Score 22 or - Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA)
Reading Subtest Score 235 and Writing Subtest Score 235 and
Praxis I Mathematics Score 178 or - Composite Praxis I score of 532
2. Two positive faculty recommendations as specified by the program area (pdf) submitted online using the faculty tab of "MyLongwood" Faculty Recommendation for Teacher Prep process(pdf)
3. Must meet the minimum grade requirements (C or better) in the introductory education courses associated with your program.
For majors in PK-6, 6-8, Secondary 6-12-EDUC 245 and EDUC 260
For majors in Physical and Health Education:
Catalog prior to 2011: One of the following-KINS 280, KINS 175, KINS 275, HLTH 205
Catalog 2011+: BIOL 206, HLTH 201, HLTH 205, KINS 201, and KINS 280
For majors in Special Education-SPED 202
For majors in Music Education-MUSC 145 and EDUC 245
For all majors, ENGL 150
Have an Overall GPA of 2.5.
