
DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY - MISSION STATEMENT
The Psychology Department at Longwood University provides the highest quality instruction to undergraduate students with the goal of preparing them for a professional career or graduate study. Specifically, the Psychology Department strives to foster student learning, scholarship, and achievement by promoting a comprehensive education in theoretical principles and research methodology applied to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.
The Psychology Department will continue to contribute to the basic education of undergraduate students at Longwood University by providing courses appropriate for the General Education Program. The department will enhance it’s General Education offerings by developing honors courses, and will continue to offer a Psychology minor course of study for students in other major areas.
The Psychology Department will continue to provide graduate instruction
(in cooperation with the Department of Education, Special Education, and
Social Work) for students seeking a Master’s degree in Community and College
Counseling. This program is designed primarily for individuals who intend
to practice in the mental health (or related) field.
