Self-Assignment
What is Self Assignment?
Self Assignment is an online sign-up process. Students have the opportunity to designate 1 roommate who is in charge of obtaining an assignment for their group. This person is known as the "designated roommate" for main campus sign-ups or "designated housemate" for apartment sign-ups. This student has to gather the required information (Name, LancerNet Id, RMSID, building & floor preference, and desired Meal Plan) for each of their roommate(s)/housemate(s).
This system allows the designated roommate/housemate to choose the location of assignment rather than indicating a preference for housing. Once the assignment is chosen, the designated roommate/housemate assigns his/her roommates/housemates to their desired beds then chooses their meal plans based on the information previously gathered. These room and meal plan assignments are confirmed before the designated roommate/housemate walks away from the computer.
*If necessary, assignments can and will be facilitated or revised at the discretion of RCL.
How do I "pull in" a roommate?
During housing registration, the designated roommate will have the opportunity to pull in other students that they wish to live with them. The designated roommate should utilize the Designated Roommate Form (Linked below) to ensure that they have collected all the information necessary to complete the registration process. The designated roommate will either be the student that is squatting the room/apartment or the student with the higher number of credits.
For example, if student A is currently living in LWV 100B and the student is squatting the apartment, the this student is the designated roommate and will assign all 3 students to the apartment on the appropriate date for squatters. Another example is if a rising Junior wants to room with a rising Sophomore, then the the rising Junior would be the designated roommate and register for housing on the appropriate date for rising Juniors.

How do I find My RMS ID and why do I need this to sign up for housing?
Each student can find his/her RMSID by logging into the Student Housing Gateway. On the welcome page, students will see a number listed at the top of the screen. This is the student's RMS ID number. Each student needs this number to register for housing so that the designated roommate can pull another student into the selected room as a roommate. The student's RMS Id should not be given out freely and should be treated as securely as their LUID. By giving the RMS ID to someone else (i.e. a designated roommate), a student is authorizing the recipient of the RMS ID to register them for housing.
