What is an OTM?
Sponsored by the RA
Mentors, the Of The Month awards is just one way we recognize our RAs
for their work they do with Programming & Bulletin Boards.
Nominations should be month specific and focus on residence hall
activities. Past accomplishments or year long commitments may be
supplied, but the focus should be on the activities of the month they
were nominated for. Submissions are sent monthly to the RA Mentors in
the following categories: Educational Program, Social Program, and
Bulletin Board of the month.
All the
submissions will be reviewed by the RA Mentors during their monthly
large group meeting. Winning nominations from each category will be
awarded spirit points which count toward the year long spirit
competition. RAs who are recognized will also receive certificates so
they can display their accomplishment. |

Things to
consider when creating a nomination:
PROGRAM
Criteria Questions:
-
Does the nomination fall into one of the following categories:
community builder, educational program, or social activity?
-
What makes the program unique from what is usually done?
-
What percent of your target group showed up?
-
How can the program be adapted to other halls?
-
Is the cost per person feasible in terms of adaptability to other
halls?
-
Did the program have a lasting effect on residents?
-
Did the program meet all the goals that were set?
-
What was the quality of the program (evaluation)?
For both
educational and social programs, the committees look for creativity,
originality, financial feasibility, percent of attendance and adaptability
to other campuses. If the nomination is in conjunction with a nationally
recognized week or holiday, the nomination needs to display how your campus
has approached the program in a new or different way. Expanding on the
adaptability question is always helpful; try to list resources used, etc.
These nominations are not only giving recognition to a group of leaders have
done a super job on programming, but it becomes a resource and a guide for
other RAs on campus. Timeliness of response to an issue is also a favorable
quality in an original program.
BULLETIN BOARD
Criteria Questions:
-
What makes the bulletin board unique from what is usually done?
-
How did the bulletin board impact residents?
-
How can the bulletin board work with other populations or in other
areas on campus?
-
Will the bulletin board have a lasting effect on residents or
encourage them to think about different issues?
-
How was the quality of the bulletin board? (Was it visual appealing?
Was it interactive?)
For
bulletin boards, the committees look for creativity, originality, and how
the board might impact residents.
