Welcome!!!
What is "Real Property?"

No, it is not the opposite of fake property. "Real Property" refers to a parcel of land and everything that is, more or less, permanently attached to said property. Thus, this can refer to everything from outhouses to manor houses, waterlines to sewer lines. If it can be moved readily by hand, foot, wheelbarrow, pick-up truck, et cetera, this is then called personal property.

With that settled, the Real Property Management department tackles anything dealing with our real property. Some of the anything they manage includes: acquisition, assessment, researching deeds and titles, procuring easements, maintenance, leasing, and anything else that may pop up in the realm of real property. If you have concerns or questions about our fake--er, personal property, please direct these to Materiel Management: they handle procurement and inventory.

Speaking of managing leases . . . We not only lease property from non-University sources, such as the Moose Lodge and the Longwood University Real Estate Foundation, but we also lease out property on a short term basis to temporary faculty and staff. Please see the link above if you are one of these faculty or staff members looking for a temporary home. You will be able to find most of the information you need there.

One more task that the Real Property Management department handles is space planning functions. Pretty much any additions or changes one wishes to make to our real property need to be approved by the Space Planning and Management Committee. The forms for space allocation and configuration requests are provided by the Real Property team. You can access electronic copies of these forms by clicking the link above for the Space Planning and Management Committee. Please submit your filled in forms to the Real Property Department and your request will be up for consideration at the next monthly meeting of the Committee. You will be notified in writing of their decision whichever way they decide.

Perhaps the most extensive duty the Real Property Management team tackles in the inventory of every space on campus, room by room, including room usage and square footage information. We also maintain up-to-date floor plans of all our buildings, which you may access by selecting the proper link in the menu bar at the top this page.

We welcome your comments and questions! Feel free to email any comments, questions, or remarks to realproperty@longwood.edu or call us at 434-395-2088.
