The Sports
Club program is designed to serve individual interests in different
sports and recreational activities. These interests range from the
very competitive sports clubs that travel and play intercollegiate
competition to the recreational and instructional clubs that conduct
activities such as basic skill development, and intra-club
tournament play. All clubs will strive to enhance and promote the
element of good sportsmanship, the well being derived from physical
activity and the socialization aspect of their sport.
-
Membership
in the clubs is open to all Longwood University student, faculty and
staff who have a current identification card. No student, faculty or
staff will be allowed to practice, travel or play in any club sport
without personal health insurance. Each participant must compete a
waiver before any activity takes place. Waiver forms can be attained
from Club Presidents or from the Campus Recreation office, Iler
Hall. Faculty and staff are eligible for associate memberships
with the ability to engage in unofficial competitions and games, as
well as, any non-competitive recreational activities. Each club is
organized and run by students under the supervision of an advisor,
in collaboration with the Director of Campus Recreation. Emphasis is
placed on student leadership opportunities and involvement.
-
All Sports
Club Presidents and Advisors will be responsible for registering the
club with the Student Union in Lankford Hall. The President of each
Sport Club will be automatically assigned to a seat on the Sports
Club Council and will be required to meet at least twice a year on
dates that will be determined by the Campus Recreation office. Clubs
must be in attendance at these meetings.
-
Coordinated by the Campus Recreation Director, the purpose of the
Council will be for the Presidents to recognize, understand and
follow the policies and procedures that exist in order for the Club
Sport to be a recognized organization by the University.
