About RedDot
Who will use RedDot
Anyone in an academic or administrative department who currently maintains (or will be maintaining) a department web site can use RedDot. For others, RedDot will be strictly be behind the scenes except for the new updated "look and feel" seen when they visit the web site.
The web team will work closely with each department to successfully convert their web site to the RedDot system.
Why we love RedDot
The best part about RedDot is…well, the Red Dots! These ingenious little dots let you click on pages, containers, lists, links and other page items to make quick text or other content changes. They’re like an easy button for your web site, allowing simplified management of your web content.
Q & A
What is RedDot?
RedDot is a web-based Web Content Management System (CMS) designed for medium to large web sites. RedDot combines several features to help non-technical and technical people alike create and manage web content with ease while improving the consistency, usabilty and overall quality of the web site.
Is my department required to use RedDot?
No, not at this time, although departments are highly recommended to switch over to RedDot to take advantage of the many benefits including: a simple way to create and manage web content, helping to ensure federal accessibility laws are followed, preventing broken links, ability to have multiple authors and/or approvers, piggybacking on Longwood's branding/marketing for elevated visibility and profile, and much more...
The best part is that we will continue to add new features (forms, media integration, photo galleries, etc) that Longwood RedDot users can use to implement new functionality on their web site. The benefits never end!

I’m responsible for my department website. How will I use RedDot?
You don’t have to know how to write HTML code, or how to create web pages, or even how to use FrontPage to update your web sites in RedDot. To make text changes, you simply click on the RedDots to open content areas and type your text changes. RedDot allows you to easily post news, information, images, documents and other content to your newly improved, slick looking web site without any web design or technical knowledge. There is no software to install - it is all web-based and your login is your Longwood Network ID so there's no additional username and password to remember!
How does it all work?
For web site visitors, the RedDot management system is invisible. However, visitors will see the new updated "look and feel" of your web site and will immediately experience the enhanced usability and consistency.
For content managers, RedDot allows you to manage your web content from a web browser such as such as Internet Explorer. Once your changes are complete and you submit them for publishing, your new content will publish to your live web site almost immediately (in most cases), unless your department has designated an approver. If so, the content will be published upon approval.
