    <title><![CDATA["Fit Club Challenge: Longwood Edition," sponsored by Longwood's Alpha Kappa Alpha, begins September 16]]></title>

    <description><![CDATA[<P>The Lambda Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is sponsoring a friendly competition in which the campus team that loses the largest percentage of weight by Nov. 9 will receive a grand prize.</P> <P>Students, faculty, and staff who are members of Longwood's Health and Fitness Center are eligible to participate in "Fit Club Challenge: Longwood Edition," which begins Sept. 16. The fee is $3 per participant. Participants are asked to register a team of five to seven members. The registration form can be&nbsp;downloaded from the <A href="http://lancer.longwood.edu/org/lambdadeltaaka/programs/september_programs.htm">sorority's web site</A> (listed under September 16).</P> <P>Teams will be weighed each Monday by members of the Campus Recreation staff to chart their progress. The Challenge is in conjunction with national organization's health platform and is a fundraiser for the chapter. The&nbsp;winning team will be publicized on the chapter's web site.     <description><![CDATA[A live interactive webcast of Gail Collins, a columnist with <EM>The New York Times</EM>, speaking on "When Everything Changed: A Look at Changes in the Lives of American Women Over the Past 50 Years" will be shown Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in Greenwood Library 147.  <P>The talk, funded by the Office of the Provost through Academic Affairs and presented by the Women's &amp; Gender Studies program, is part of a series of webinars sponsored by <EM>The New York Times</EM>. Supplemental materials will be available before the event on the Women's &amp; Gender Studies research guide on the Greenwood Library web site. Collins, who in 2001 became the first female editor of the Times' editorial page, has since July 2007 written a twice-weekly column that covers American politics and other current events in a humorous or satirical light. She is the author of several books, including <EM>When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the</EM> <EM>Present</EM>, published Oct. 14, 2009.</P>]]></description>

    <title><![CDATA[Martin Clark, a Virginia judge who is the author of three award-winning novels, will speak Nov. 13]]></title>

    <description><![CDATA[<p>Martin Clark, a Virginia judge who is the author of three award-winning novels and has been called "the thinking man's John Grisham," will speak Nov. 13 in Greenwood Library, in a Friends of the Library event that is free and open to the public. There will be a reception at 6 p.m., and Clark will speak at 7 p.m. and sign books at 8 p.m., all in the atrium. Though the event is free and open to the public, persons who want to attend must RSVP to Keary Mariannino by phone (395-2431), email (<a href="mailto:marianninokm@longwood.edu">marianninokm@longwood.edu</a>), or in person (Greenwood Library 122).</p>
<p>Clark, who lives in Stuart and is a circuit court judge in Patrick and Henry counties, is the author of <em>The Legal Limit</em>, <em>Plain Heathen Mischief</em>, and <em>The Many Aspects</em> of <em>Mobile Home Living</em>. A legal thriller, <em>The Legal Limit</em>, published in 2008, has been called "the new standard by which other works of legal fiction should be judged" and "the best courtroom story ever." His two previous novels were acclaimed for their wacky humor.</p>]]></description>
