Dept. of Education, Special Education and Social Work - Science Teacher Preparation : Opportunities Longwood University students preparing to teach science will know and demonstrate the content knowledge, pedagogical techniques, professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn science. Carefully planned field experiences in the K-12 classroom are recognized to be the foundation of successful teacher preparation. All aspects of Longwood Science Teacher Preparation are aligned with national and state standards for science teaching. These include National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) standards for secondary science teaching and Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) standards for elementary teaching, as well as the Virginia Science Standards of Learning (SOL).
