Courses & Advising

Course of Study

The Graduate Communication Sciences and Disorders program includes an academic course of study designed to enable students to meet the Knowledge and Skills prescribed by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to be a speech-language pathology. A complete listing of courses can be found in the Graduate Catalog.

Advising

Students will be assigned an academic advisor upon entry into the program. Students and their advisors will use the course study form upon entry into the program to plan when the students will take each course, complete their clinical experiences, and meet all other requirements necessary for ASHA Certification, licensure from the Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and licensure from the Virginia Board of Education.   Students will meet with their advisors at least once a semester to review their progress in meeting all necessary academic and clinical requirements. Both the students' and the advisors' copies of the Course of Study will be updated. Graduate Course of Study forms are located below.  The student and his/her advisor will review the student's progress toward meeting the ASHA certification standards. This regular advising will enable both the students and their advisors to identify whether there is a need to adjust the plan developed upon enrollment in the program.

For course descriptions and requirements please refer to the current Graduate Catalog.
