Group Presentations - 373 & 384 - Spring 2005

Here are your instructions for the presentation:

1. Make sure your Power Point presentation will work in the computer in 127 at least a day before you are scheduled to present. Be sure you have it saved on two separate disks (either diskette or zip disk). If it doesn't work that day, you'll have to present without the slide show and obviously won't get as high a grade as you would if it works.

2. Dress appropriately. This means nice. Wear your "good class presentation" clothes.

3. Be sure each person contributes equally to the presentation.

4. Students who present information from memory (without having to use notes or read from the screen) will receive grades that are substantially higher (all other qualities being equal) than students who rely on notes or screen text during the presentation.

5. You should, of course include pictures, graphs, etc. You may use a video clip, but not one that takes more than two minutes.

6. Practice having someone else in your group advance the slides while you are talking.

7. For any facts presented, include the source of the facts in the slide show, on the page where the facts are presented (can be in footnotes). Do not simply insert the url of a web page; also provide the web page title or name.

8. Along with the above, I use the following to grade the presentation:

Was the topic interesting?

Did it hold audience's attention?

Were presenters energetic, enthusiastic?

Were presenters appropriately relaxed (vs overly anxious; taking advantage of the practice session will help!)?

Did presenters display mastery of content?

Was the power point presentation of high quality?

Did presenters provide evidence for facts?

Was topic/information new (versus redundant with course information)?

9. You will turn in a hard copy of the presentation for me to use for grading.
