- ANNOTATION should be two or three sentences. Do NOT write complete abstracts.
- It is acceptable, and in fact expected, that the bibliography accompanying

research process and students should not be concerned if the bibliographies
differ.
- Must be typed.

Any standard outlining form is acceptable (e.g. Roman Numerals, numbers 1.1,
1.2, 1.2.1 etc.)
- You may use key words or sentence outlines.
- Although, different forms may be used and there is no minimum length,
outlines should be DETAILED enough to provide direction when
writing the paper.
- Grading criteria for the outline include consistency of form, logic of
organization (i.e. headings), completeness and appropriateness of supporting
information (i.e. subheadings), and adequacy as a guide for writing the term
paper.
- Outlines should be typed.
Term Paper
-

- Cite at least seven sources, two of which must be
from scholarly sources.
- Refer to class notes for definition of "scholarly journals". This would
normally refer to refereed journals such as Research Quarterly for Exercise

purposes of this class you may classify JOPERD and Strategies as
scholarly journals. Magazines like Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, etc.,
though perfectly acceptable and often cited, do not qualify as "scholarly
journals". Please consult the instructor for clarification concerning the
classification of sources.
- Sources taken from the Internet are acceptable. However, students
should be VERY CAREFUL in assuring the accuracy and quality of the
material cited.
- Use APA style for citations.

These books, however, are not on the shelves where textbooks have been placed but instead are located with Trade-books and Best-Sellers. Students unable to locate these titles, or wishing to order a different title, should request assistance from a bookstore employee.
NOTE - The purpose of this assignment is to examine how society in general perceives sport and is influenced by it. Therefore, I encourage you to select "best-seller" type popular books and not "academic" texts. Have fun with this assignment!

4, ARTICLES
Points: 5
Due
date: Any day during semester
On most days class will begin with a discussion of current events based on articles that students have clipped out and brought to class.
Guidelines
· Sources should be recent.
· Acceptable sources include almost anything as long as it is recent. Examples include popular magazines, newspapers, television programs, lectures, movies, etc.
· In the case of sources which cannot be clipped or copied (e.g. television program, lecture, etc.) students should submit a written report which includes the date viewed, persons presenting, title of program (if appropriate) and a brief summary.
· Because the purpose of this assignment is to increase student awareness of the prevalence and importance of sport related issues in our society at large, students are encouraged NOT to use professional journals, but instead to use sources from what would normally be termed "lay" or "popular" literature.
· Each article MUST be accompanied by a complete, APA style, bibliographic citation. This may be hand written directly on the article if there is space. In addition, students should write the date on which they presented the article in class.
· Topics can include ANYTHING RELATED in some way to course content. These may include, but are not limited to, issues relating to education, health, medical professions, coaching, society and sport in the broadest sense, etc
