2012 research projects:

· Correlations between levels of coliform indicator bacteria and E. coli and levels of known bacterial pathogens (e.g., species of Campylobacter, Listeria, and Salmonella) within freshwater streams in the piedmont of Virginia.

· Strain identification of Salmonella spp using both serologic and molecular techniques to further identify isolates that have been shown to be pathogenic.

· Examination of the stratification of bacterial numbers within the water column within freshwater streams.
