Course Description:   A study of representative works and literary movements in French literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.  Students will learn to use the methods and language of literary analysis.  Prerequisite:  FREN 202 or equivalent.  3 credits.

III.  Rationale for Course:  Given France’s place in the forefront of European literature and culture, literature in French from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is an important element of our cultural heritage.  French writers initiated or developed many of the literary movements that mark the literature of the period in France and elsewhere.
