Course Description: A
survey of 19th and 20th century German literature from
Realism to the present with emphasis on dramatic and prose forms. Students will learn to use the methods of
language and literary analysis. Prerequisite:
GERM 202 or equivalent

III. Rationale for Course: Currently the course is taught regularly as an introductory level course for students interested in literature in German. As a survey of German literature, the course already meets all the outcomes for Goal 3 of the new General Education Guidelines. Many works studied during this course are considered important landmarks in world literature. We therefore believe the class should be included as one that would fulfill Goal 3 for those students interested in this tradition.
