General Education Goal(s) for which course is designed: ___3__________

Please attach the following :

(1) a completed General Education Course Planning Matrix.

(2) a proposed syllabus in SACS format. The syllabus should indicate in some detail how the course will satisfy each of the nine

(9) required General Education Course Criteria (pageXX) AND each of the student outcomes specified for this goal (page XX).

II.       Required for a Major, Minor, Concentration (please specify): Required for Major.

III.     Rationale for Course:  Currently the course is offered every fall as one of two courses (SPAN 352 is the other) regularly taught as an introductory level course for students interested in literature in Spanish.  As a survey of Spanish literature, the course already meets all the outcomes for Goal 3 of the new General Education Guidelines.  Despite the tremendous presence of Latino cultures—which draw heavily their literary heritage from Latin American and Spanish literature—in the United States, university curricula rarely include in their core courses that explore these literary traditions.  We therefore believe the class should be included as one that would fulfill Goal 3 for those students interested in exploring an important  aspect of our cultural heritage.

           E.    Estimate the cost of required new equipment: None.

           F.    Estimated cost of and description of additional library resources: None.
