Hobbies Quite frankly, my "work" and "research" are my hobbies. Travelling to new places and seeing new things are the best hobbies I can come up with. But if I'm pressed, these are some others:
World War Two - European Theater of Operations - I have read extensively through the literature on battlefields in France, the Low Countries, and Germany. I am presently reading works on the Normandy campaign of 1944 with a thought toward writing a battlefield guide. I am also a Patton fan and have re-traced his footsteps on World War One battlefields (St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne), Battle of the Bulge sites, and the Rhine River crossings. I particularly enjoy trying to duplicate shots from historical photographs, ala After the Battle magazine.
Star Wars - I can't get enough of the stuff! I have a complete collection of action figures from the 1990s and have read all of the novels and comic books associated with the Star Wars universe. Some even suggest that I named my son after one of the Skywalkers. Does that make me Darth Daddy?
Punk Rock, New Wave, Surf - I was punk before it was fashionable...I could just kick myself for not having any pictures taken of me from that time! Bands that I would actually pay those ridiculous ticket prices to see live (in no particular order): Sex Pistols, Cramps, B-52s, REM, Devo, Agent Orange, Los Straitjackets, Man or Astro-man?, Dick Dale, Green Day, Offspring, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Creed, Smashmouth, Blink 182 (those I've already seen are in bold).
