Greece & Turkey

"Clash of Civilizations"?
HIST 484-01
18 May – 2 June 2008
Applications Ready: Applications are now available either through Dr. Isaac (Ruffner 227) or in the swivel racks outside the Study Abroad offices in Ruffner. Please note that there is an essay asked for on the back page of the application. This can be a standard style, double-spaced essay. Also: the application comes with two recommendation forms. One of these is for your advisor, but many students do not always know their advisor that well, so you can feel free to treat that form as an optional extra. As the Flyer (see link below) indicates, applications are due to Dr. Isaac by 5 November 2007.
Facebook: We do have a group on Facebook that is open to new members as well. Look us up on the Longwood network under "Greece and Turkey: May 2008?".
Want more information?
We have a small flyer with more details. It gives the highlights of the proposed visit, but remember this is an actual course for 3 credits. There will be assigned readings in the Spring Semester, plus meetings. The thematic focus of the course does not mean to imply that we will be looking only at conflict; certainly, we will examine conflict around the Aegean since Antiquity, but just as importantly, we will be looking at the construction of boundaries that mean to forestall conflict, at the cross-cultural contacts that happen in the face of conflict, and the growing cooperation that marks the relations of these two nations. That's actually the point of the question mark in the course subtitle.Proposed Schedule
