Coming to Longwood in the fall of 2003 as Electronic
Resources Librarian has allowed me to blend my professional library
training and experience with technical skills acquired as a telecommuting
webmaster and information analyst for an international relief and
development organization.
My interests range from Andean culture to community health and
development to anything French. My husband Edward,
a medical geographer in the Biological and Environmental Sciences department, did his doctoral
research in Bolivia ten years ago. We have been back several times
since then, so you can expect to hear something about our experiences
there if you get to know us in any way, shape or form. |

Employment |
My previous work experience falls into three
primary areas -- teaching, librarianship, and information technology --
all of which come together at Longwood. I started out teaching high
school French and later taught at the college level. I have served
in various reference and instruction roles at the Emory University,
Georgia Institute of Technology, and Northwestern College
libraries.
Most recently I worked for MAP
International, a non-profit international relief and development
organization, in various roles, first as Librarian for a specialized
collection on international health and development and then as Director of
Reference and Information Services before gravitating to the IT department
where I was involved in software support, information analysis and web
development.

Personal Interests |
Language fascinates me, and I've been fortunate to see firsthand
how it is a reflection of culture during several extended stays in France,
travel in Europe, a short trip to Haiti, and our numerous sojourns in
Bolivia. Our daughter, the enthusiastic blond below at age five celebrating Ed's
birthday in our home in Chilimarca, convinced us to go to Hawaii several
years ago. I have decreed that our next big trip must take me back
to Paris, which I have not seen since 1985. In addition to keeping
up with a teenager, her adorable dog, an anti-social cat, and Ed, I enjoy
cooking and sewing and I'm now trying my hand at gardening.
