Librarian or
Android?:
"Librarian
or Android?" is a library orientation game we play with students in our
first-year seminars. I created it with a lot of help from
- my colleagues within
the library,
- the inimitable Jeff
Halliday, Assistant Professor of Communications, and
- Longwood Seminar peer
mentors, who gave us the low-down on what first-semester students really
need to know about library research.
If you're in the library and want to play,
grab a
clue sheet and click
here to start. I recommend clicking the
audio option on the "Your Mission" page so that you can enjoy the vocal
talents of the above-mentioned Professor Halliday. Have fun!
I've also created an online-only version for those
who may be away from the library but still want a chance to take on
the android. You will also need a
clue sheet, and you will begin your
adventure
here. I hope you enjoy it.
All players should note that the game must be
completed during the hours that there is a librarian staffing our
instant messaging reference service. We feel that this is an
important service for first-year students to be aware of, so we have
made it an integral part of the game. Our IM service is
typically staffed whenever the library is open, with the exception
of the hours from 10 pm to 12 am on school nights during the fall
and spring semesters. For more information about library
hours, click
here.
System requirements: Students typically play
the game in the library, and we know that the game works on the
library's computers. Those working remotely will need a
high-speed Internet connection and Flash Player 7 or higher.
