COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Music 171, 172, 271, 272, 371, 372, 471, 472. Voice. Applied Concentration. One hour individual lesson or equivalent each week. 2 credits.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of these courses students will be able to
1. Sing appropriate number of pieces (new in this semester)
from memory
2. Sing the required literature in the appropriate style and with
greater technical/vocal
skill
than in prior semesters.
3. Demonstrate a more sophisticated/refined musical understanding
and perform with
greater
self confidence and poise than in prior semesters.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
ATTENDANCE at required events (class schedule, above).
PRACTICE: minimum of 5 hours per week.
PREPARATION: Come to your lesson with all words, notes and rhythms in place, so that we can work on musicianship and vocal technique during your lessons. Please be prepared. Your teacher will not teach you the notes.
REPERTOIRE: assigned by your instructor
PERFORMANCE on a departmental
recital is optional.
GRADING:
Three graded studio performances 15% each
Jury (final lesson performance) 25%
Lessons 30%
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students are expected to attend all lessons and classes. Unexcused absences will result in an automatic lowering of your grade. Absence from more than 25% of the scheduled lessons and classes will result automatically in a grade of F. See the College Catalog for a complete statement of the college's attendance policy.
Any arrangements to miss or reschedule a lesson must be made
ahead of time. Your instructor is willing to negotiate, but she
is not tolerant of irresponsibility.
