MUSC441 - Elementary Methods and Materials


Field Experience Guidelines:


The Field experience in MUSC441 gives you, the Longwood student and prospective teacher, the opportunity to follow one class (a 45 minute period) for six weeks. During this time you will be able to cultivate a good rapport with the children in your assigned class and to gain an understanding of how to develop the curriculum for that grade level.


The activities should include, but are not limited to, the following:

Week 1:
Observe
Participate as directed by your cooperating teacher.

Week 2:
Assist your cooperating teacher
Lead an activity, at the direction of your cooperating.

Week 3:
Assist your cooperating teacher
Lead an activity as assigned by your cooperating teacher and developed by you (Written lesson plan required)

Week 4:
Assist your cooperating teacher
Teach a small portion of the lesson, developed by you in collaboration with your cooperating teacher (Written lesson plan required)

Week 5:
Assist your cooperating teacher
Teach a lesson, probably about 1/2 the class period, developed in collaboration with your cooperating teacher (Written lesson plan required)

Week 6
Teach a full lesson, or a large portion of the lesson (Written lesson plan required)
Your MUSC441 instructor will observe this lesson. Be sure to provide an extra copy of your lesson plan for her with the previous three plans attached.
