Essay - MENC Standards as a Guide for the Classroom Teacher

Heading: The heading should appear single spaced in the upper right hand corner of the first page and should include the following:

Your Course Number (MUSC448 or MUSC548)
MENC Standards as a Guide for the Classroom Teacher
Your name

Do not include a cover sheet.

Focus - (in place of a title) two spaces below the heading, please include the following information:
MENC Standard #__: (quote the standard - just the standard, not the discussion) - See links page for list of the standards.

Text Format: double spaced, 10 or 12 point type, 1" margins, in a standard font (such as Ariel, Helvetica, Times New Roman)

Length: 1.5 - 2 pages

Content: Choose one of Standards 2-9 and discuss how it may influence the classroom curriculum. Choose a particular grade level and give at least one specific example of how you might implement the standard at that grade level. For the purpose of this exercise, assume that there is a music teacher at your school who is responsible for the primary content of music. Your job is to integrate musical ideas into other subjects or to use music as a vehicle for other learning. To help you get started, consult the discussion of your chosen standard at the level you wish to discuss. See links page for the discussion of the standards.

Note: Be prepared to discuss your perspectives in class on the day the paper is due.
