Vocal Literature, Spring 2005

As a semester long project, we will survey the art song literature found in the library, decide what is still needed to fill out that part of the collection, and order it.

Part I: Survey the literature

Put together a list of all of the printed song literature that is found in the library. Do this by examining the catalogue and by physically going to the library to see what is there. Some scores in the collection are not what they might appear to be on the catalogue. For example, a miniature, or pocket score may not be the most appropriate or useful format for a performer. We should aim to have this part completed by mid-term.

Part II: Fill the holes

Over the semester we will identify many works in the artsong genre, some great, some not. We will decide which of these are important enough for our library to purchase, if we do not already have a copy (or if we need an extra copy or a replacement copy). We will present the library acquisitions staff with a wish-list that they will purchase over the next few semesters. This list needs to be as detailed as possible, meaning not just a list of song titles, but book titles and publisher information, as well.
